Shona – Soloist
Shona’s style of performance is elegant and effortless, that brings a soothing and comforting sound to any event or party. Her voice and piano playing are a perfect match and with her repertoire covering a good blend of beautiful ballads and modern pop, she can give something for everyone.
I have been a musician since the age of eight but I only really started to take singing seriously from the age of 14. I began by covering well known pop songs and posting them on YouTube (in secret at first!) before beginning to write my own original music. As my confidence began to grow, I then started to perform locally while still at school, before going on to study music at Newcastle University where I regularly performed with the Newcastle University Jazz Orchestra, which gave me a great amount of experience.
Over the past 5 years I have had a lot of my original music played on BBC Introducing shows in York and North Yorkshire, Tees, Tyne and Wear and West Yorkshire. I have also played at various weddings and events, at some beautiful venues, such as Alnwick Castle, Wylam Brewery and Gisborough Hall. Whilst growing up I listened to a real mix of classical, folk and pop music but began to develop a keen interest in jazz at University, after playing with the Jazz Orchestra. My original music now tends to combine all of these genres but I try to add my own jazz and soul style when playing and singing modern pop songs.
Alongside my day job and my music projects, I teach piano, violin and singing lessons in Leeds. I absolutely love this, as it pushes me to further my own musical development and I love seeing the progress my students make as performers and at creating their own material. In my spare time I love going to gigs and being inspired by fellow musicians and songwriters.
