Courtney – Soloist
Originally from South Africa, Courtney is one of The Music Wardrobe’s newest artist, who’s wonderful voice and experienced guitar playing, has taken her travelling all over the world. Her song list ranges from all types of genres and makes her the best artist for any wedding, party or celebration.
I played modest gigs at restaurants and markets in my hometown in South Africa, until I left high school and then worked as a featured soloist on cruise ships all over the world for 3 years before moving to Leeds to study. My ship contracts (USA, Australia, South-East Asia, Europe) and land gigs mean that I have a show and repertoire to suit a range of events and ages, from young children through to the elderly, background to featured main-stage act and can tailor each performance to the client and venue.
Since moving to Leeds, I have played at many bars, restaurants, weddings, and other private and public functions. I also enjoy busking and have done 2 busking tours. Last summer I toured across the UK for 3 weeks busking in new cities each day.
My performances suit a broad range of events and can be tailored to suit any client. I have experience playing themed sets such as 70s, 80s, 90s, only music from the last 5-10 years, focusing on female artists, playing wine tasting and ‘high tea’ type events, entertaining children, playing to elderly people in a hospice, playing unplugged or busking-style proposals or birthday surprises and having played to people from all over the world I have dealt with many types of people and their tastes. When in Japan I learned basic Japanese and a few Japanese songs, as well as big karaoke hits, to help connect with Japanese guests. My presence is always friendly and approachable but depending on what a client wants can be reserved, or bubbly and engaging, chatting between songs, taking requests and keeping folks entertained.
